Recess Support

Do you love to throw a football, referee a “world-cup soccer game,” or enjoy a giggle listening to the creative stories of our youngest learners? How do you feel about the need for all children to have daily opportunities to run, play, and enjoy all sorts of Vermont weather? Can you support peers through a play-based conflict, focusing on compromising and perspective-taking?

We have a fabulous team of 3-4 staff who supervise all CCS students through a rotation of recess. Having extra folks to support this outdoor priority is needed to buffer staff absenteeism, to positively impact the youth on the playground, and to help cover the various activities that kids enjoy across our campus.

Hike Pease Mountain

Want to spend time on Pease Mountain with your children and their classmates? Volunteer caregivers are working closely with second-grade teachers this year to take students on Pease Mountain hikes! Two to four volunteers independently lead a group of six students on a hike up and around Pease Mountain every week.

This is a volunteer-led activity that has full support by the teachers and is accessible to all students in the grade two. The teachers help coordinate what students go out on each day and when. This has been successfully lead by grade rep Erin Bleichfeld for second graders. Erin has shared details here!

If you’re a volunteer who would like to do this for a grade, please reach out to your grade rep and teacher.

If you’re a teacher who would like volunteers to do this with your students, please reach out to your grade rep to help coordinate volunteers.

Math Buddies

Grade 7 and 8 Math could use some volunteers. In addition, some kids can really benefit from getting pulled into a small group for half an hour or so with a parent volunteer for some fun, focused book or math game time.

If you’re a volunteer who would like to do this for a grade, please reach out to your grade rep and teacher.

If you’re a teacher who would like volunteers to do this with your students, please reach out to your grade rep to help coordinate volunteers.

Sledding at Recess

Our rockstar recess staff are outside with our kids in every type of weather and for that we are so grateful. But they don't have the bandwidth to also manage sledding. On days where the hill behind the school is full of snow, please consider volunteering to take one classroom sledding during recess.
